The Curtains...and Most Everything Else...Must Come Down! (Labor Day weekend)

The first thing we began tackling while we gathered ideas and money was just simply removing the outdated and unwanted items. We took down the ripped, smelly curtains so I could price new ones (I'm still saving for those!) and we removed the front couch since we knew that we preferred a dinette.

We tore out the brown, filthy carpet and took down the hanging wicker light fixture. Next, we started scrubbing every surface to prepare for paint. It was already smelling better!

Finally, after using Dawn, TSP, and some kitchen counter spray, the walls were feeling a lot less sticky and were ready for sanding, followed by primer and two coats of white paint.
You can see here how yellow the old wall color was in comparison to just one coat of white paint.

To gain a little more aisle space (and because that was what size the store had in stock), we also took out the two bunk beds, cut them down from 34 inches wide to 30 inches wide, spray painted the bases white using Krylon Plastic Fusion spray paint, purchased new memory foam mattresses, and reinstalled them.

We installed a new Fantastic Fan in the front of the Airstream (please, ask me how "simple" it was to do this, sitting on boards in the rafters of my dad's 10-foot-high garage. It was the perfect height to sit over the Airstream but it took several hours to remove the old fan and redo some "creative" wiring done before us).

The next projects include a new stereo system, new side panel for the refridgerator, painting cabinet doors, and building a dinette. We hope to tackle all before storing the Airstream for the winter. And, if we can fit it in, we'd like to camp in it at least once this year! A lot has changed in the last two weeks so we're excited to think how it might look this time next year.
